Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the best time of the day for a photoshoot?

I always photograph in the last hour and a half of the day as this is when the most flattering light is for portraits. It gives a beautiful softness to the images.

Do you photograph grown up families?

Yes, definitely. I photograph any age from birth to 100+. I photograph lots of families with teenagers who have recently flown the nest or are about to.

What if I’m not comfortable having my photo taken?

It’s my job to make sure you feel comfortable. I’m very friendly and the sessions are fun and relaxed. I give lots of direction to help bring out the best in you.

How long does a shoot take?

Normally it takes around an hour and a half. This gives everyone a chance to relax and be themselves. It goes by quickly.

What if my children don’t behave?

You really don’t need to worry, they don’t have to. My style is very relaxed and fun. Before gaining a degree in photography and design and starting my photography business, I was an early childhood teacher. I love working with children, I’ve been doing it my whole life.
I have lots of tricks up my sleeve to get lots of natural smiles and giggles.

What happens if someone in the family is unwell the morning of the shoot?

Just let me know as soon as possible and we can reschedule. It’s important that everyone is well on the day, as we want everyone looking and feeling their best in the photos.

What if it rains?

If it rains we reschedule. However it can be difficult to know what the weather’s doing in Hawkes Bay, so sometimes we need to wait until the last minute to decide whether we go ahead or not. Don’t worry if it’s overcast though, I like shooting on overcast days best.

Do you edit the photos?

Yes I do. It’s all part of having a professional photoshoot. I don’t use filters, but every image is individually, hand edited. This means adjusting tones, contrast, highlights and shadows, as well as removing unwanted blemishes and softening wrinkles. A lot of care and attention goes into it and I keep it very natural.

Do you choose the location or do we?

My favourite place to photograph is the beach because there’s so much variety there and everyone has fun, but I’m happy to discuss a location that’s meaningful to you and your family.

How many people can I have in the shoot?

There’s no limit. The more the merrier! I do a lot of generational shoots which are very special for everyone involved. Sometimes grandparents can take a bit of convincing, but they're always so proud to show off the photos to their friends. And don’t forget to include your fur babies!

OK, you’ve convinced me to be in photos with my family, but what do we all wear?

Good question! It’s important for you to be yourselves. You need to feel comfortable and be happy with what you’re wearing. I send out a What to Wear Guide once you’re booked in to give you some ideas and I’m happy to give you any help or advice you need.

How much does it cost?

I have different packages available to suit everyone. Clients generally spend between $790 and $2097.

Do you have payment plans?

Yes, I do. You can pay for your photos over 3, 6, or 12 months.

What happens after the session?

I offer a completely personalised service for each of my clients. After your session I carefully select and edit the very best of your images, then we set a date for you to come and choose your favourite ones and decide how best to display them in your home. I promise you’ll love them!
